Photo Challenge: Delicate

Delicate Arch, Utah, USA

Delicate Arch has become an Utah icon. The walk up to the arch is a 3 mile round trip so not too strenuous at all. My daughter was a big fan of the US National Parks Junior Ranger Program and was super-keen to earn as many badges as she could while we were in the USA last year. They’re free! We all learnt something from that program and I wish they had something as well resourced here in Australia. What we learnt while earning the Arches National Park badge was that it was important to Keep off the Crust. The cryptobiotic crust is extremely fragile and some types take many, many years to form. Step on it and you’ve just wiped out 10 – 100 years of growth.

    • I know. I’m just glad I had Lily with me so I had an excuse to get the booklet! I was so impressed by the whole system. The rangers were so friendly to her when she went up to receive her badge.
